At the same time, it softens the excessive sharpness of digital images, giving your shots a more natural, soft look. The filter offers a medium diffusion intensity of 1/4, which provides a distinct yet controlled light-diffusion effect. It’s perfect for creating atmospheric footage, vlogs, portraits, and cinematic-style content.
Subtle glow and a natural-looking complexion
The Black Mist 1/4 filter gently diffuses light, creating a soft glow around bright spots without overly brightening the entire frame. Additionally, it smooths the appearance of the skin, reducing the visibility of wrinkles, pores, and minor imperfections, which is useful when recording vlogs, interviews, and portrait shots. It also slightly reduces contrast, bringing out details from the darker parts of the image while preserving deep blacks and details in bright areas. The 1/4 intensity provides a stronger effect than the 1/8 variant, but remains more subtle and reduces image haze compared to the 1/2 filter. This allows you to achieve a distinctive, cinematic look in your footage without having to apply additional effects during editing.

The filter is made of optical glass containing microscopic black diffusion particles, which are responsible for the characteristic light diffusion. A multi-layer anti-reflective coating helps reduce unwanted reflections, while hydrophobic, oleophobic, and scratch-resistant layers make it easier to keep the glass clean. The frame is made of a lightweight, aerospace-grade aluminum alloy that has undergone precision CNC machining.
